Human Weapon Clip Choke from the Front
This is a video clip of a Krav Maga basic self defense technique to defend against being choked from the front. It’s from the History Channel’s TV show “Human Weapon”. It’s being narrated by the show’s hosts, Bill Duff and Jason Chambers.
Bill: During the choke, your opponent is relying on his grip strength and out stretched arms to maintain the choke. The strength of your back and shoulder muscles is greater than the applied force of your opponent’s hold, so it doesn’t take much to break his grip.
Jason: And the closer your hands are to your own neck, the greater the leverage.
Their explanation of the choke from the front defense is partially true; “The strength of your back and shoulders muscles is greater than the applied force of your opponents hold”. This is true, but the “pluck” is done using speed in an explosive movement, not the strength of your shoulders and back. We don’t muscle through it.
To quote from the Darrin Levine and John Whitman book “Complete Krav Maga”. “The pluck is explosive, using speed rather than strength.”
